Pakistan & Terrorism
- Pakistan became a center for Islamic militants when it served as the staging ground for the West’s war against Soviet occupation of Afghanistan beginning in 1979.During the anti-Soviet Afghan resistance, militants from all over the Muslim world passed through Pakistan to participate in the Afghan war which brought numerous fighters from all over the world to Pakistan in the name of jihad, often financed by the West and/or United States or Saudi Arabia.
These fighters, known as mujahideen, created havoc in Pakistan by carrying out terrorist activities inside the country well after the war officially ended through creation of covert networks within Pakistan, taking advantage of poor law enforcement and the state’s sympathetic attitude toward pan-Islamic militancy .Now that Al-Qaeda and the Taliban have been uprooted from Afghanistan, they are using their former transit station as a gateway for terrorist operations. Domestic terrorist groups remain active, they along with Taliban & Al-Qaeda have developed tactical or strategic alliances with each other as well as with foreign groups to fight against the West as well as the democratic countries who refuge to accept their ideology of the pan-Islamic movement . Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, has often been accused of playing a role in major terrorist attacks across the world including the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, terrorism in Kashmir, Mumbai Train Bombings, London Bombings, Indian Parliament Attack, Varnasi bombings, Hyderabad bombings , failed plot to assassinate President Hamid Karzai of Afganisthan , sponsoring attack On Indian Embassy In Kabul, Mumbai Hotel attack & killing of around 200 people . The ISI is also accused of supporting Taliban forces and recruiting and training mujahideen to fight in Afghanistan and Kashmir
How far one can believe the current Govt. of Pakistan for their sincerity to wipe out the terrorism ?

- The ISI ( Inter-Services Intelligence) of Pakistan has for decades maintained contacts with various militant groups in the tribal areas and elsewhere, both for gathering intelligence and as proxies to exert influence on neighboring India and Afghanistan .In recent months there have been concerns about the involvement of ISI in organizing Al Qaeda groups in the tribal arias of Pakistan, the assassination attempt on President Karzai in Parade of 8 of Sawr and the recent suicide attack on the Indian Embassy. The C.I.A. has depended heavily on the ISI for information about militants in Pakistan, despite longstanding concerns about divided loyalties within the Pakistani spy service .US authorities have always attempted to avoid criticizing Pakistan in public, and have consistently referred to Pakistan as an ally in the “war against terror”.

- The Arabic word, madrassa, refers to a wide range of Islamic and secular primary and secondary schools. In some parts of the world, such as the Middle East, Islam is taught throughout the school system as a mandatory part of a broad national curriculum. But in parts of South Asia, like Pakistan and Afghanistan, madrassa refers to dedicated seminaries that are mainly concerned with teaching Islam.Pakistan is a country is controlled by military junta for most of its existence, and a political system made weaker by the breakdown of State institutions, madrassas have an important role to play. They offer free boarding and lodging to students – belonging to the poorer section of the society. The quantitative expansion of madrassas is directly linked to the failure of the public education system. Only a privileged few can afford to pay the exorbitant fees that private schools demand, leaving majority of the children to either take up education at government schools or madrassas. Now madrassa means a nursery for extremists and fanatics, and this is the common understanding of the madrassa .. !!Interestingly , largest numbers of madrassas in the world are in India. There are more than a half million madrassas in India. And they do not produce any terrorists at all. But many among 200 thousands madrassas in Pakistan and Bangladesh are directly or in-directly connected to the mass scale production of terrorists.

The Indus Valley civilization, one of the oldest in the world and dating back at least 5,000 years, spread over much of what is presently Pakistan and Western Part of India. During the second millennium B.C., remnants of this culture fused with the migrating Indo-Aryan peoples. The area underwent successive invasions in subsequent centuries from the Persians, Greeks, Scythians, Arabs (who brought Islam), Afghans, and Turks. The Mughal Empire flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries; the British came to dominate the region in the 18th century. The concept of training of the terrorists in disguise of mujahideen and then creation of terror environment through these thugs are not new in Pakistan . When Awami League of erstwhile East Pakistan now Bangladesh led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won the landslide victory in the general election (In the elections of 1970, Awami League won 167 of 169 East Pakistan seats in the National Assembly but none of West Pakistan’s 138 seats. It also won 288 of the 300 provincial assembly seats in East Pakistan. This win gave the Awami League a healthy majority in the 313-seat National Assembly, and placed it in a position to establish a government without coalition partners.) Pakistani Military rulers did not transfer the power to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman , instead created its local militias (al-Badr , al-Shams , Razakar etc.. mainly armed Islamist militias ) to kill thousands of Bengali people (irrespective of their religions) .
